Central bankers will also be in focus this week as the great and good of the central bank world attend the International Monetary Fund Meeting and World Bank gathering in Bangkok, with several major names set to speak, including Fed Chair Kevin Warsh.

Earnings season also kicks off again this week, with several major US banks due to release reports in the coming days.

Here is our usual day-by-day breakdown of the major risk events this week:

It is a very quiet calendar day on Monday, with nothing of note across all three trading sessions; however, liquidity will likely be reduced due to bank holidays in key centres, especially in the last session of the day, with both US and Canadian markets closed.

The calendar is again very quiet on Tuesday, with no significant data of note on the cards. We do hear from the Fed’s Barkin and Collins and the MPC’s Dhingra later in the day, but the impact is expected to be minimal ahead of bigger players scheduled later in the week.

The calendar really picks up on Wednesday, with some key data due out and some major central bankers set to speak. Chinese CPI and PPI data will be in focus for the Asian session, while the headline data of the week, the US CPI, will be released shortly after the New York open. We also hear from the ECB’s Christine LaGarde, the Bank of England’s Andrew Bailey and the Bank of Canada’s Tiff Macklem when they speak at the IMF Meeting in Bangkok.

Australian markets will be in focus for the Asian session, with employment data due out early in the day. The London session sees the release of the UK GDP numbers, while we also hear from the Bank of England’s Andrew Bailey again, as well as the Swiss National Bank Chairman Martin Schlegel, when they speak from Bangkok. The New York session sees a big US data drop featuring the latest PPI, Retail Sales and Philly Fed Manufacturing numbers, as well as the weekly Unemployment Claims update.

There is little in the way of key data released on Friday; however, the final day of the IMF Meeting sees scheduled updates from Fed Chair Kevin Warsh, as well as the Bank of England’s Andrew Bailey and the Bank of Canada’s Tiff Macklem again.

Risk Warning: Trading in securities involves significant risk.
